A Swift Death - Dyvyne TV

A Swift Death

Electric Chair Doctor

The death penalty has been a debated topic for many, many years with capital punishment currently legal in 32 U.S. states and in the federal civilian and military legal systems. Approximately 3,095 inmates are awaiting execution. Connecticut, Maryland and New Mexico have abolished the death penalty, but it is not retroactive, meaning prisoners on death row in those states will still be executed. According to the Death Penalty Information Center there have been 1386 executions since 1976.

The act of putting one to death has become an interesting topic. Outside of the fact that new evidence has often surfaced proving ones’ innocence years after their incarceration, death is final and cannot be reversed in this instance. What can be said for a life taken in “mistake”? That, I feel, is the main reason the death penalty should not prevail… human error. However, it does exist and with other horrors, botched execution.

Since 1976 there have been 1211 Lethal Injections. These executions were designed to be swift, but that isn’t always the case. Lethal injection is currently under fire as the original cocktail created for this task has changed due to the inability to acquire certain drugs necessary from over seas pharmaceutical companies. These companies do not agree with the U.S. death penalty procedures and have simply refused to supply them to the U.S. This is no longer a smooth process and the subject suffers at great lengths.

Since that same time we’ve had 158 Deaths by Electrocution, 11 by Gas Chamber, 3 by Hanging and 3 by Firing Squad. All run the great possibility of significant error, prolonging death and increasing chances of great suffering during the process. Some will say due to the crime committed the inmates suffering should not matter, others will say let it be as painless as possible. I can only ask for forgiveness for both sides.
